Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 20, 2026

1. Introduction

AlcScan ("we," "us," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information in connection with your use of the AlcScan iOS application, including any premium or paid features ("AlcScan Pro"). By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

AlcScan is designed with privacy in mind. We minimize the data we collect:

2.1 Information You Provide

When you use AlcScan, you may provide personal data including drink logs, personal metrics (such as weight and gender), and BAC estimates. This data is primarily stored on your device, however we may have access to this information in order to provide, maintain, and improve the app's services.

2.2 Images of Your Drinks (AI Analysis)

When you use the drink scanning feature, AlcScan allows you to take or select a photo of your drink. If you choose to use this feature, the image of your drink is sent to Google's Gemini AI service (operated by Google LLC) for analysis. The AI analyses the image to identify the type of drink, estimate its volume, and determine its approximate alcohol content. The following data is shared with Google when you use this feature:

  • The photo of your drink that you take or select
  • A text prompt requesting drink identification and alcohol content estimation

No other personal data (such as your name, location, health metrics, drink history, or device identifiers) is sent to Google. The image is transmitted securely via HTTPS and is used solely to generate the drink analysis response. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. When using the Gemini API, Google states that it does not use your prompts or responses to improve its products.

2.3 User Consent for AI Analysis

When you first create an account or begin using AlcScan, you will be asked to provide your explicit consent to the use of Google's Gemini AI service for drink analysis. By agreeing, you acknowledge that drink images you scan will be sent to Google for processing. If you do not consent, you may still use the app by logging drinks manually. You may withdraw your consent at any time through the app's settings, which will disable the AI scanning feature going forward.

2.4 Purchase Information

If you purchase AlcScan Pro or any in-app purchases, the payment transaction is processed by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat (operated by RevenueCat, Inc.) as a third-party service to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives purchase receipts and transaction data from Apple to verify and manage your subscription status. RevenueCat may collect an anonymous app user ID and purchase history to facilitate subscription management. We do not collect or store your credit card details or Apple ID. For more information on how RevenueCat handles your data, please refer to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

2.5 Automatically Collected Information

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, usage statistics, or any other automatically collected information.

3. How We Use Information

We use information in the following limited ways:

  • Drink images: Sent to Google Gemini to identify your drink and estimate its alcohol content when you use the scan feature, based on the consent you provide during sign-up.
  • App data: Drink logs, personal metrics, and BAC estimates are used to provide BAC tracking functionality and to maintain and improve the app's services. We may access this data for the purposes of app functionality, troubleshooting, and service improvement.
  • Purchase confirmations: Used solely to verify and unlock premium features within the app.
